Palermo became in the last 10 years one of THE neighborhoods of BA. Palermo today referes to avant garde art, design and gastronomy. Use te be a residential distric (flats all over) with some car workshops, and those “fixing cars places” and houses turned into chic restaurants, bars, well-known top brand shops, libreries with coffe shops, design and decoration spaces, clothing fairs and tall residential builldings.
Also was divided en different sub areas like “Palermo lakes”, “Palermo Soho”, “Palermo Hollywood”, “Palermo Chico”, “Palermo Queens”…but this division was made it by the real state business, so they made “Palermo” bigger and more expensive
(and chic of course!)
Palermo Hollywood is call the area between JB Justo Ave, Santa Fe Ave, Dorrego Ave and Cordoba Ave. It is call “Hollywood” because there are many TV channels and independent producers, plus some radio stations in there. Also many restaurants and hotels, plus THE street where are most of the clubs of Palermo: Niceto Vega st! (Niceto, INK, Liv….)
Palermo Soho is the fashion district where you will find all the vogue, and the shops will be showing their new colections; the vanguard of Latin America. The hurt will be Plaza Cortazar (known as Plaza Serrano too) during day light there are clothing fairs (young independent designers), and during the night the bars tables take care of the situation…the name comes from NY Soho cauze will be full of shops (no matter what is the shop about, will be a “designed shop”). Lately there are lots of B&Bs and Boutique hotels…
Palermo Chico it will be one of the most exlusive ngbhds in Buenos Aires. This is because you will find “Barrio Parque” that is a small area of the city with HOUSES that normally are huge. Celebrities and sports people lives in there. Maradona did for a few years. Also in there is the most expensive residencial tower in the city (Le Park II). Palermo Chico has many embassies (Spain, Chile, Portugal, USA, Canada, Peru, Lebanon, Saudi Arabia, Poland, Morocco….) so that is why is completely safe to walk in there altough there is no much people who walk around that area. Also you will find the MALBA (Museum of Latin American art in BA) biggest private colection plus itinerary expositions…
Palermo Lakes will be the area of the parks…there is a big lake (no swimming), El Planetario, the Japanese Garden. Many people fitting since early hours, a beautifull area to chill.
Summarizing: walk all over!
